Sometimes, it's nice to try out new things.
A couple of weeks ago I had a client who wanted some shots for her portfolio and we had chance to have a bit of a play. Some clients have something definite in mind, others have more of an open brief and it's fun to see what direction things go in and what emerges. This young lady had an idea of what she wanted, but was game to try out a few suggestions too!
We used different backgrounds inside, did some pictures outside and played with a variety of different 'poses'. This was one of the shots taken near the end of the shoot and I edited it in different ways, trying out a blue tinge, making one look very golden and finally trying out various black and white options and came up with this. I'm a sucker for black and white photos; I love the atmosphere that they lend and how you can make them very highly contrasting and a little bit edgy, or very soft and subtle.
Whilst not all photos work in black and white, I love this one. Not just because it's black and white, but it's the way that her chin sits neatly between her knees, the fact that her hands and feet are both crossed and how she's looking straight into the camera. And I have to point out that although she looks naked as the day she was born, she did actually have shorts and a t-shirt on!
